On this page we will publish all updates regarding REACH 2022 and the availability of compliant inks.

What REACH 2022 says

The new REACH 2022 rules come into force in EU/EEA countries from 4 January 2022.
The restriction introduces maximum concentration limits for individual substances or groups of substances used in tattoo inks or permanent make-up. Examples of chemicals are particular azo dyes, carcinogenic aromatic amines, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), metals and methanol.

It will also be mandatory that the labels of pigments intended for tattooing and permanent make-up display this intended use. The label must also include a list of ingredients and relevant safety statements.

Pigment Blue 15:3 and Pigment Green 7, for which the Commission and EU Member States have agreed a 24-month transition period, will no longer be usable from 4 January 2023.

How to buy compliant pigments

There is a dedicated category on our website: Inks compliant for Europe
This category consists exclusively of inks complying with REACH 2022.

Tattoo inks that are not in this category can only be used in Europe until 4 January. After that, they will only be compliant outside Europe, where the regulation does not apply.

In addition, we have indicated their non-compliant status in their description and name on each of these.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I continue to use colours that I bought before the new REACH regulation came into force? From 4 January, the colours will no longer be compliant and therefore cannot be used.

Which colours can I use from 4 January 2022? We have created a specific category on the website (Inks compliant for Europe ),where we will gradually add colours compliant with the new REACH regulation. Unfortunately, as of today there is almost no supply. Manufacturers claim to deliver compliant colours gradually in the first months of 2022. At the bottom you will find all the information released by the manufacturers.

Will the colours I have been using so far be identical but still REACH-compliant? Certainly they will be good products, and even safer than before. But the manufacturers will not reformulate the whole range but only some of the shades. Some colours may no longer exist for the European market.

If I cannot use them, can I return the colours I bought a short time ago? We are working on it, in order to offer support in this period of momentous transition. We will publish news shortly.

If I cannot use these colours and the new ones are not available, how can I work? We will be among the first in Europe to have REACH-compliant colours as soon as they are available on the market. For now, there is not much alternative, so we have to be patient.

Why are other retailers already accepting pre-orders for the new conformal inks? We can tell you with absolute confidence that no retailer will be able to ship the inks to you by 4 January 2022. The reason is simple: they are not available to anyone for at least 2 weeks. We will place pre-orders as soon as we are sure about the stock and the exact delivery dates.
